Palestine & Israel: Two-state, one-state or what state?

The two World Wars and their aftermath have left continuing violence and conflict in lands that are considered holy by all three Abrahamic religions (Christian, Muslim and Jewish).  These three faiths comprise more than half of the world’s population.   Efforts by U.S. presidents since Reagan to encourage a settlement in the “Holy Land”  have been stymied.  Given the very different historical narratives of the peoples now living on the land, what practical steps might resolve this dispute?  What is the role of the United States?  Our discussions will consider proposals to resolve the four elements of a final settlement identified in the 1992-95 Oslo Agreements that Presidents Bush and Clinton brokered between the PLO and Israel: borders, security, right-of-return (for refugees) and Jerusalem.
