Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy is almost universally acknowledged as one of the premier masterpieces of twentieth century cinema. The three Godfather movies, based on the best-selling novel by Mario Puzo, have broken box office records and earned multiple film industry awards in every possible category. With each viewing, the films acquire more luster, yielding ever more thematic depth, ever more stunning performances and evidence of brilliance.
Writing in the Chicago Sun Times on the fiftieth anniversary of the films, Richard Roeper said, “The Godfather is the most memorable, most influential, most quoted, most beloved, most discussed, most imitated, most revered and most entertaining movie ever made.”
This colloquy will explore the myriad aspects and depths of the films and the novel.
