Entering the Imagination of Marsden Hartley: His Poetry, His Prose, and His Paintings

Poetry and painting often spring from the same imaginative and creative impulse. Marsden Hartley (1877-1943) was a master of both. His prose, poetry, and painting will be examined and discussed as an entire oeuvre of this Maine master. In this colloquy we will try to integrate Hartley’s writing and painting by showing his paintings and circulating his poetry. In addition, we will show the film “Visible Silence: Marsden Hartley, Painter and Poet.”
